What does an osteopath treat?

Osteopathy treats back pain, neck pain, nerve pain, sciatica, headaches, sport injuries and more.

What does an osteopath do?

Osteopathy uses hands-on adjustments to help correct joint and muscle problems in the body. Your osteopath will assess your spine, posture and alignment and explain any issues you may have. A common technique is "joint manipulation" where an audible "pop" or "click" is heard - gas escaping from the joint - which increases mobility and reduces muscular tension.

How does osteopathy work?

The relationship that the spine has with the neurological system means that the nerves running from the spinal cord to our joints and muscles can be damaged. If a sensory nerve is affected, we feel pain. If a motor nerve is affected, we feel weakness. By improving the structure and function of the spine, the nerves and muscles are able to function at their optimum.

What is the best treatment for back pain?

Up-to-date medical research has proven osteopathy to be effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends osteopathy for the treatment of lower back pain.

At Chelmsford Osteopaths, we have years of experience treating back pain - check our google reviews to see the proof.

What causes back pain?

Osteopaths see everyone from professional sportspeople to sedentary office workers. Whether it's overuse, underuse or misuse, most pain comes from a mechanical origin - joint, muscle, tendon, ligament or nerve. The job of the osteopath is to find out which - and fix it.

What causes neck pain?

Modern life isn't conducive to a healthy spine - sitting poorly at work, regular computer and phone use, driving, commuting, slouching on the sofa (and even sleep) are all big factors.
