What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a type of medicine that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. The idea behind osteopathy is that the body's structure and function are closely related, and that problems in the muscles, bones, and joints can affect overall health.

Osteopathic practitioners (called osteopaths) use hands-on techniques, such as joint manipulation, stretching, and mobilisation, to help improve mobility and reduce pain. They also focus on promoting the body's self-healing abilities by addressing issues like poor posture, muscle tightness, and joint stiffness. Osteopathy can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including back pain, arthritis, headaches, sports injuries, and even general health.

Osteopaths are licensed healthcare professionals and can serve as primary care providers, conducting medical exams, and can also work in conjunction with other medical professionals, such as GPs, specialists, physios, sports therapists, acupuncturists and chiropractors.
