What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a healthcare system that specialises in musculoskeletal diagnosis and treatment using a combination of orthopedic examination, palpation and manual techniques.

One of the aims of osteopathy is to correct problems in the body's frame to make it easier for the body to function normally, reducing the risk of injury.

What does an osteopath do?

Osteopaths primarily work with their hands using palpation as an aid to diagnosis and adopt a variety of different manual approaches. The treatment may involve manipulation, articulation, strengthening techniques and soft-tissue massage as well as advice on posture, nutrition and rehabilitation.

Want to improve your health?
Osteopathy can help.

The relationship that the spine has with the neurological system means that the nerves running from the spinal cord to our joints and muscles can be damaged. If a sensory nerve is affected, we feel pain. If a motor nerve is affected, we feel weakness. By improving the structure and function of the spine, the nerves are able to function at their optimum - improving our overall health and wellbeing.

Want to be free from pain?
Osteopathy can help.

Up-to-date medical research has proven Osteopathy to be effective in the treatment of musculoskeletal pain. At Chelmsford Osteopaths, in addition to pain-focused treatment, we emphasise the importance of not just focusing on the symptoms, but finding the cause of your pain so we can develop a long term treatment program that improves your posture and spinal health.
